Jak Se Mas & Annie Jo Oakley

Jak Se Mas: is Czech for 'How are You Doing?'...just wanted to stay with my ethnic background.
Annie Jo Oakley...Just turned my name around from Jo Ann to "Annie Jo", then added "Oakley" because she was a great lady shootist.

Our interest in CAS:  We saw a TV show about CAS and it sparked our interest. Jak Se Mas enjoys the Old West History and likes the idea of preserving the tradition of that period.

Dark Secrets:  Can't recall any past dark secrets, but with this crowd we're sure to develop some along the trail. We did however, used to be Square Dancers -- almost as addictive as CAS, just without guns.

CAS Most Memorable Moment:  Jak Se Mas - when he met Lassiter Thunder & Tequila and was able to spend time talking with them at 'Shindig'.
Annie Jo Oakley - Haven't been shooting in the sport very long (Oct 25th this year), but I'm awaiting for a good one.

Jak Se Mas (Doug Prazak) was with the Houston Fire Department for 36 years and retired a Captain.
Annie Jo Oakley (Jo Ann Prazak) is a Project Buyer at Paragon Engineering.
3rd generations Texans, Doug & Jo Ann Prazak live in the Willowbrook / 1960 area.

(Fast) Tracker & Kit O'Leary

Alias: I chose Tracker as my alias for the simple reason that it left my costuming wide open. My official SASS name is Fast Tracker.

Kathy chose Kit O'Leary for her alias because it was the name of her great grandmother, who was the daughter of the Mrs. O'Leary of the Great Chicago Fire.

Interest in CAS: My shooting buddy from The Range Masters, Cheyenne Ranger, invited my wife and me to watch a cowboy shoot in January of 2003. My wife, Kathy, will occasionally shoot 22s or a couple of clay pigeons, but is not a "gun person."

While watching the match, Cheyenne and Lady Wolf "twisted my arm" and talked me into shooting the match. They loaned me all of the equipment and ammo that I needed. I had a ball, but didn't really think that Kathy would be interested in investing in four new guns, holsters, a cart and clothes.

Unknown to me, while I was shooting, she was talking to the ladies on the sidelines about fancy dress balls and ball gowns and hoop skirts and shooting outfits and boots and hats and accessories.

As we were leaving, she said, "You know, there's a Gun Show tomorrow. Let's go buy some guns for this." By the time the next match came around, I had all of the guns, leather and a costume. We signed up as Texas Regulators at that match.

I have now been shooting SASS for several years. Kathy comes to most matches and sometimes keeps score. Kathy has not yet fired a shot in a match, but has six hats, four pairs of boots and moccasins, five complete outfits, a waterproof duster, a corset, a set of hoops, a handbag and is having a ball gown made. She may begin shooting in January of 2007.

Most Memorable Moment: I took our son, who lives in Austin , to shoot his first match on a Sunday this November. We were completely washed out after only two stages. After helping to take down the stages, he made it back to the truck before I did. He said that with my head bowed into the wind, the water splashing with each step I took, the rain pouring off of my hat and duster and carrying my rifle that I "looked like a real cowboy." I think he is hooked too. He came down from Austin for the December match.

Deep Dark Secret: we USED to be YANKEES!

Mike and Kathy Popinski are from the Spring area and are both teachers in Spring ISD. Kathy has taught there for 24 years and Mike has been there for 17. During their short (and getting shorter) summer vacations they like to travel and do a little fishing.

Slashwood Whittler

ALIAS: In my former life as a cowhand and hired gun I rode with some bad hombres out of Slashwood , Montana . We were being chased by some guys that thought we stolt their horses. Them ol swaybacks just kept followin’ us. Anyway, our leader, Bang Gunly, said we needed an alias cause them boys hot on our trail knew our names but not our faces. Because I had spent some time in the Slashwood, Montana jail, Bang started calling me Slash Wood. I was Slash from then on. We ended up down here in Texas where we split up. I had some horses followin’ me again when a couple of Texas Rangers named Gus and Woodrow caught me. (Never did get their last names). They didn’t believe my story and hung me right there.
Fast forward to today. Besides fillin’ the air with lead I carve cowboys and Santas. I’ve been doing it for a while. So I took my first alias and put it together to get Slashwood and added Whittler for my carving. It fits me like my old Ropers.

My interest in CAS: INTEREST: Well first of all, my heroes have always been cowboys and many people have told me I should have been a cowboy. Most don’t know I really was a cowboy in a former life. When my brother, Cheyenne Ranger, told me about CAS and the Thunder River Renegades I had to check it out. Lady Wolf and Lone Wolf loaned me pistols and I shot Cheyenne ’s long guns and was hooked, period. My brother and I went out the next week and I got my pistols and shortly after that got my "Yellowboy" and scattergun. I do wear my duds to places other than shoots. I joined the Renegades before the first match so I feel that I have found a home away from home.

Dark Secrets: My biggest secret (but not now since I’m telling you) was that I rode with Butch and Sundance for a while. We had some good times. Also Etta Place was my gal.

My real name is Dave Laich, brother of Walt (Cheyenne Ranger). I have lived in Klein for 34 years. I am a high school football and baseball coach at Klein High School and will be retiring in June of '06 (more time to shoot).

I carve cowboys and Santas, play a little golf, bar-b-que, play with my granddaughter, and work in the yard when not filling the air with lead.
